About the online mFUND-Workshop series “Data Innovations for Smart Mobility in Europe”

Data has become an important driver in all areas of our modern society and its importance is increasing every day. Data is the basis for most digital innovations. It offers enormous potential for new business models and products.
In the transport sector, digital technologies and data are used on a large scale to increase efficiency, reliability and safety of services and infrastructure and economy. At the same time, data based solutions contribute to reducing the use of resources and tackle climate change. Citizens can greatly benefit from data-based solutions, which can enable seamless multimodal traffic, increase safety and improve the mobility experience in all types of environments.
With the virtual conference “Open Data for Smart Mobility in Europe”, held under the auspices of the German EU Council Presidency on 17 November 2020, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has initiated a European dialogue on examples for data innovations in the mobility field across Europe.

To continue this knowledge exchange and to facilitate new partnerships between European projects and actors, the BMVI mFUND programme has established a new online workshops series on Data Innovations for Smart Mobility. Until the end of 2021, six events on different transportation topics will be implemented.

Workshop No. 2:

Data to support monitoring and policy decisions for climate and environmental protection in the transport sector

The second workshop in the series features the collection and use of data in the transport sector, focusing on support for monitoring and for policy decisions for protecting the climate and environment.
Data collection and simulations models can be important tools for reducing emissions and pollutants. Data is the basis for reliable monitoring processes and provides a more solid basis for taking decisions towards a sustainable transport system. In particular, data can help to understand the effects of new transport technologies and services on the environment, enabling measures for improving existing services and products leading.
The aim of the mFUND seminar is, on the one hand, to enable networking between projects with similar themes. On the other hand, the event also intends to inform policymakers and practitioners about new developments, opportunities and innovations in the field of digitalisation and data applications. In return, through contacts with partners from public entities or businesses, research and innovation projects can receive important guidance for the implementation of their projects and for exploring potential business opportunities. .
Following a keynote presentation on the range of inspiring ideas for using innovative means to collect and work with data to support monitoring processes and policies for climate protection, experts from fields related to transport, data collection and reduction of emissions will exchange on ideas and experiences with participants.
Bring your knowledge and ideas to the discussion.
We look forward to your participation!
