The European Commission has informed the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure that the notification procedure for the guidelines on computer game funding has been completed.
Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer said:
We received the go-ahead for the second phase of our games funding programme! This means we can finally fund productions of a larger scale, too. With funds totalling 250 million euros, we have set up an internationally competitive programme and are immensely looking forward to seeing the first results.
After the financial basis for the next years has already been secured in the 2020 federal budget, the decision by EU has now also clarified the legal foundations to substantially boost the German gaming industry on a long-term basis.
At present, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is preparing the first call for applications for the second phase of the funding programme, which is to be published in spring.
As has been the case so far, the new programme will be implemented in line with the budgetary and funding regulations that apply to all federal programmes. Lessons learned from funding projects under de minimis rules will also inform the new guidelines.
