Private investors, cities, towns and municipalities can, as of today, again submit funding application for the deployment of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. With a fifth call within the scope of the “Funding Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in Germany”, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is supporting the deployment of up to 7,000 normal and 3,000 rapid charging points.
Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer said:
From now on, charging points at all customer car parks are eligible for funding, thus including car parks that are not open around the clock. This is another important step in the roll-out of sufficient charging facilities across Germany. Because charging must be possible everywhere: at home, at work and at the supermarket.
Further information on funding
- Applications can be submitted until 17 June 2020 via the “easy-Online” web portal under www.foerderportal.bund.de/easyonline (in German).
- Hardware investments as well as costs for connecting normal and rapid charging points to the grid are eligible for funding.
- The web-based location tool (“StandortTOOL”), which identifies coverage gaps in the nationwide charging network, is again used in this fifth call for applications for funding. The tool guarantees an area-wide and demand-driven roll-out of the charging infrastructure.

Further information on the charging infrastructure programme of the Federal Ministry
The objective of the Federal Ministry’s charging infrastructure programme is the deployment of charging infrastructure that provides universal nationwide coverage with 15,000 charging posts. To achieve this, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is providing a total of 300 million euros over the period to 2020. Private investors, cities, towns and municipalities can submit applications for funding. The funding covers up to 50 percent of the eligible costs of not only the deployment of the charging post, but also the connection to the grid and the assembly. One requirement for funding is, among others, that the charging posts are operated using electricity from renewable energy sources.
